Biblical rain wash down over me from my window I can see the Saint James Church in the pale moon light and a tungsten cross illuminate the night The sky is heavy the air is thick the bed sheets are damp I am sick I pray for rain to wash down over me to cleanse me, heal me help me to breath Last night I saw sick over and over my stomach hurt and I couldn’t stand up I was lying on the floor sweating through my pores and I thought to myself this could be the end I was trembling, shaking knees a-quaking couldn’t stand up couldn’t care for myself And all God’s children cared me me Let my sweat and tears pore and mix with the rain mix with the rain Let that rain run to the river and float down stream out to the sea Let those waves roll over me and carry me home carry me home I was trembling, shaking floating in the ocean lying on my back looking up at the stars Helpless, child-like nothing left in me I lay on my back and let them care for me

about

A joyful pain, like pressing on a bruise.

Dancing Through The Flames of Pleasure and Pain is the first release from Elizabeth Walshaw and Iman Nezamian. Developed from a series of improvisations, the four track EP weaves Nezamian’s eastern folk and ancient melodies played on santur with the loose flowing fuzzy tones of Walshaw’s guitar. Rinsed out in Glasgow’s murky waters, the resulting record is a moody exploration of the fragile joy of life.

Iman Nezamian, is a photographer and musician born in Tehran and now residing outside Glasgow. He plays shows across Scotland solo and with the Rain ensemble.

Elizabeth Walshaw is a Yorkshire-born guitarist and songwriter, now living in Glasgow. She records and releases music under the name 50ft Queenie.
